Apis mellifica is a well-known remedy in the family of homeopathic medicine. It is directly derived from bee venom, but it is diluted and dynamized at extremely low or even extra-molecular concentrations. For this reason, even subjects who are allergic to insect venom can use it.

As a matter of fact, allergic and intolerant patients can benefit greatly from this remedy.

It has numerous uses in various pathologies. It can be used in granule or drop form or in mixed compositions that are available from various producers.

For information about the usage of homeopathic remedies, refer to the specific link FAQ Homeopathy.

Dosage

The standard dosage is generally 3 granules (or 5-6 drops) to be taken twice a day. In acute phases, the remedy can even be taken every 10-20 minutes. Reduce the frequency of treatment as symptoms subside.

As with any form of acute inflammation due to allergy (presenting symptoms such as the desire to cool the affected area or a localized prickly sensation) the remedy is especially useful in combination with Orthohistaminum 9 CH.

Generally, a single dose of Apis mellifica 200 CH (1 dose tube) can be taken immediately and then followed by 3 granules of Apis in combination with 3 granules of Orthohistaminum as often as every 5-10 minutes until the symptoms are reduced.

In many cases, this treatment has helped to avoid substantial treatments of cortisone and antihistamines. This treatment is also effective when used as part of a program to gradually reduce the use of antihistamines (see column with related information).

Duration

The duration of the treatment can be long term (as in the case of chronic or recurring forms) and the treatment is generally prescribed by a doctor. When this treatment is extended for periods greater than 1 month, we suggest that you seek a doctor’s advice.
