When a doctor is able to regenerate a patient's abilities for restoring his body's equilibrium without the use of drugs, it's truly a great satisfaction. When a person is helped to regain health in an autonomous way, by stimulating detoxification and cleansing actions, he's not only helped to feel better, but he's also helped to strengthen his confidence in his own capabilities.
There is more and more scientific data in favor of a carefully thought out and individualized use of mineral and vitamin supplements. There are only a few studies that express doubt or disagreement about some of these aspects. A worldwide conference, wholly dedicated to the prevention of cancer through nutrition (London, November 2007, worldwide conference of the World Cancer Research Fund) reiterated the importance of food, of the inflammation regulating action of food and of the importance of seeking foods that are more biological in the prevention and therapy of tumor forms. But apparently the popular trend of Corriere della Sera prefers to insinuate doubts about the various forms of active natural treatment for many diseases: therapies that don't involve drugs and are respectful of an individual's balance and of the environment.
Therefore, after the articles of the past months that denied Homeopathy and criticized food intolerances, the articles of the past weeks discuss the uselessness of vitamin supplements, the uselessness of biological foods in school cafeterias and, last of all, despite a thousand year old tradition that considers it natural healing instrument, suggest that water shouldn't be drunk if one isn't thirsty, because it's actually not so useful for a person's health.
We respect any opinion that is expressed in a civil manner, although we acknowledge, as Gadamer stated, that when Medicine ventures onto the borderline with the economical-industrial world, Science often loses its value and is overcome by commercial considerations. We take these things with a sense of humor and are just waiting for an article condemning grandma's vegetable soup that could be accused of some infamy that we're not yet aware of; perhaps for its high vitamin, mineral and fiber content. Today it seems that the only way to find a cure is through drugs and the control of the “Institutions”, whatever they may be.
We know for certain that every column expresses the opinions or viewpoints of its publisher, and that in the end one learns how to read the news and use that which is useful. The only risk is that, after crying “Wolf!” again and again, in the same direction, even the readers will doubt even true statements.
In the meantime, we at Eurosalus will continue to give information on the correct mineral and vitamin supplements, to suggest ecological therapy methods, to help foster nutritional habits that aid in healing, to prefer natural and naturopathic treatment methods, integrating them with the classic ones. What's more, we'll also continue to recommend Grandma's vegetable soup as an excellent dish.
