The second day of the AMIEC Conference was concluded by a round table discussion on Food Intolerances and Diagnostic Tests. In the end, the strongest idea that emerged from the various discussions was that of scientific cooperation, something that is often denied but whose only scope is to benefit the patient. A young girl dies while in a diabetic coma after having suspended insulin treatment upon orders from a self-proclaimed, highly irresponsible, “healer”. The newspaper, Corriere della Sera immediately prints the headline “Homeopath suspends insulin - a young girl dies” and goes on to build a strategic page that ridicules homeopathy. Now if they had printed the headline “Jewish doctor suspends insulin” or “Black doctor suspends insulin”, they would be charged with racism. Is this kind of generalization acceptable or does it express the intention to disparage the values of a single group?

The newspaper Corriere della Sera recently “informed” the public about the uselessness of drinking a lot of water, about the harmfulness of vitamin supplements and the pointlessness of biological cafeterias. It also persevered in its opposition to natural medicines, homeopathy and healthful nutritional choices. What will come next, an article about the harmfulness of Grandma’s vegetable soup? Or on the uselessness of fruit and vegetables?

Joint pains were once thought to be consequences of age and the various forms of arthritis (rheumatoid, psoriatic, reactive, etc) were considered to be incurable diseases. But now we have the certainty that these forms can be treated effectively through diet. What’s more, in many cases a lasting remission and a considerable reduction in the use of drugs can be obtained, allowing for a more respectful and balanced treatment. At our center Professor Marco Froldi along with Attilio Speciani is closely following the cure for these forms.
