This is one of the most annoying abscess-related forms that exist. It is often related with sexual activity, but not necessarily caused by it.
This condition is characterized by a small gland within the small labia of vagina (Bartholin’s gland), that begins to swell and is extremely painful. It may reach the size of an apricot and many people have had to pierce the abscess in order to overcome the acute infection and subsequently undergo a surgical operation to remove the gland, which kept getting infected.
Natural medicine has a very simple way to deal with this type of infection. Few people who chose natural treatment had to go through surgery later.
How to proceed
Bartholinitis is in any case an abscess. Therefore all the instructions shown under item “Abscess” on this website are valid.
There are, however, some specific traits of Bartholinitis that require special treatment.
Immediate treatment
Homeopathy
At the first sign of swelling (if you notice that first) or at the onset of pain, start taking Mercurius solubilis 15 CH or 30 CH (don’t use low dilutions such as 5 CH or 7 CH), associated with Belladonna 5 CH (or any dilution between 5 CH and 30 CH). Take three granules of each even as often as every 30-40 minutes until the discomfort begins to subside. At that point you start decreasing the dosage and keep decreasing until, in the following days, you get down to 2-3 intakes a day.
Phytotherapy
Tea tree essential oil is extremely important in all forms of abscess. It is a natural antibiotic and anti-fungus. As stated in the instructions below, you should take 4-5 drops 3-4 times a day and the frequency should decrease progressively over a period of 3-4 days as the situation improves.
Trace elements
Copper should be taken (one dose every 12 hours) until the abscess is gone. Alternatively, use the mixture of manganese, copper and zinc. Same dosage.
Preventive treatment
In case or repeated abscesses of the Bartholin’s gland, you must investigate the imbalances within the entire body.
When we begin a clinical examination of this disturbance, we first rule out any tight clothing that might stifle local breathing (tight jeans, constant use of pantyhose). Next we turn our attention to nutritional elements (food intolerance) , dysbiosic elements (vaginal candidiasis or intestinal , or yeast infections), as well as to lack of mineral and possible vitamin deficiency. A diet exceeding in carbohydrates, with a consequent excess of insulin, can contribute to the repetition of these episodes over time.
We generally work on mineral supplementation for a long period (one dose per day of Manganese Zinc Copper or Cellfood Multivitamin or Bio45); we look for the possible presence of food intolerances (the most frequent ones being milk, yeast or fungi) through a DRIA test specifically aimed at Candidiasis or a complete DRIA.
The homeopathic remedies that help reduce the residual hardening of the gland (a sort of small nut shape within the small labia), and which must be taken after the repetition of infections has subsided, are Thuia and Conium maculatum.
