Hello,
I am a surgeon who has a latex allergy (for the moment it only causes dermatitis on my hands). Does a homeopathic remedy for this exist?
Thank you and best regards.

Dear reader,
In cases like the one that you described, it's possible to use a symptomatic remedy such as Orthohistaminum 9 CH (OTI) or Histaminum 9 CH. Utilize 3 granules just before putting on your latex gloves and immediately after removing them. This homeopathic medicine acts as a natural antihistamine, reducing reactivity and thereby improving the dermatitis.

In addition, following the classic homeopathic line, one may use remedies like Arsenicum album 5 CH and Arsenicum iodatum 5 CH. the first will be useful in case of fine flaking and dandruff-as well as peeling in the form of wide, hard flakes. The skin is thickened and lacks elasticity. If itching is present it causes a burning sensation but improves with warm compresses.

Otherwise, Arsenicum iodatum presents intermediate flaking, neither too fine nor too wide and the itching is improved with cold compresses. The chosen remedy should be taken in the dosage of 3-4 granules, twice daily for therapeutic cycles lasting one month. The treatment may be repeated.

In addition to the homeopathic remedies, one may also take a product such as Oximix 3+ (Driatec) in the form of one measure at breakfast for long periods if necessary. This product contains all of the minerals that are important for the regulation of the immune system (particularly manganese, zinc and copper) and a phyto-therapeutic remedy like Ribes nigrum that works as an important modulator of the inflammation reaction.

This treatment scheme, although effective, works exclusively on the allergic symptoms. On the other hand an investigation into any possible food intolerances allows one to effectively reduce the general level of inflammation within the body thereby limiting manifestations on the skin. Food intolerances may be treated through a rotation diet that foresees certain days in which non-tolerated foods are restricted and other days in which those foods are reintroduced. This is the only way in which the body can be re-educated to once again tolerate those food classes to which it is hypersensitive.

Cordially,

Gabriele Piuri and dr. Attilio Speciani
