The preparation of homeopathic remedies
Homeopathic remedies are mostly of vegetable origin (but may also be of mineral and animal origin) and must be prepared according to well-defined procedures that guarantee the absence of toxic elements and preserve their effectiveness.
The mother tincture
The starting base is the so-called mother tincture that is created by macerating the original substance in alcohol. For vegetable substances, the whole plant is generally used, fresh, gathered in the wild or cultivated according to precise rules and picked at the moment of maximum maturity. Sometimes only certain parts of the plant, such as roots, bark, flowers or seeds are used. In any case, the plant or its parts must be processed within 48 hours after being gathered in order to produce the mother tincture.
Dilution and dynamization
Once the mother tincture is ready, a drop is taken and placed in a bottle along with 99 drops of alcohol; in this way we obtain a dilution of 1/100. At this point the liquid must be dynamized, which means that the bottle is shaken vertically for a certain number of times. This is the procedure for obtaining the first centesimal Hahnemannian dilution that is abbreviated as 1 CH.
The next step involves taking one drop of the liquid that we have obtained and placing it into a bottle with 99 drops of alcohol and repeating the dynamization: in this way we reach 2 CH.
We can continue in this way until we reach very high dilutions. For example, when we refer to Pulsatilla 1000 Ch, this means that these procedures have been repeated 1000 times; remember though, that after 12 CH the original substance no longer "exists" in the resulting dilution, instead the energetic image of the substance is retained on the alcohol or water molecules that were used for the dilution.
As far as mineral substances are concerned, the procedure is slightly different in that the inert substances must be ground before a liquid dilution can be used. For example, in the case of Arsenicum album, a progressive grounding is performed up to 3 C H; then we dissolve the usual percentage of 1 part to 100 of alcohol, continuing in the same way as for substances of vegetable origin.
The remedies are mostly sold in granule or drop form. The granules are made by pouring the specific dilution over lactose granules until the substance has been completely absorbed; the drops, on the other hand, are used as they are in the already prepared dilution.
Taking homeopathic remedies
Homeopathic remedies can be taken in different ways: the most classic and effective method is that of taking the prescribed granules or drops in the morning upon waking, placing them directly under the tongue without touching the product with the fingers if possible (fingers are often oily and can make absorption of the remedy difficult)
The granules are dissolved under the tongue because sublingual absorption is one of the most rapid and immediate methods possible and it allows the substance or the water in which it is diluted to enter directly into circulation within the body.
It isn't true that the homeopathic remedy is to be taken on an empty stomach or that one cannot drink mint, chamomile or aromatic infusions. When taking remedies, it's sufficient to abstain from eating or drinking anything else a few minutes before and after each treatment.
The remedies are available in multi-dose tubes or bottles for repeated use, and the quantity prescribed by the doctor is extracted each time. There are also mono dose tubes that are to be used all at one time by pouring the contents of the tube under the tongue and allowing it to slowly melt in the mouth. The remedy is to be used on the days instructed by the doctor and should be repeated only under if he prescribes it in order to avoid negative side effects.
If you take remedies more than once per day, avoid eating, drinking or smoking for at least ten minute before and after the medication: in this way the absorption is improved and the effects are more rapid.
Another method of taking the medication, especially convenient for pediatric use, is that of dissolving the dose of granules or drops in half a glass of water and then drinking the liquid a spoonful at a time (even at minute intervals if necessary.
The authentic homeopathic recovery follows certain, relatively standardized, paths according to that which is referred to as the "Law of Hering", named for the doctor who discovered it.
During this process, the symptoms disappear from the inside towards the outside, from the upper regions to the lower ones, and in order of their appearance. Therefore, if at the beginning of a homeopathic treatment there is a temporary worsening of the condition, or if old ailments reappear, or if a skin eruption occurs, realize that it's nothing serious, on the contrary, it's the process of definitive resolution of the initial problem.
