Resveratrol is one of the oldest yet most modern natural molecules that is available to us today. This substance is mainly found in grape skins (grape juice contains a large quantity, as does red wine, and among grapes the dark varieties contain more than the lighter ones). It's also found in some berries and in the roots of particular plants (Poligonum cuspidatum).
It has a wide range of action: it's traditionally used for its strong anti-oxidant effect, useful in restoring venous microcirculation and for regulating free radicals. Recently, however, it has been found to activate Interleukin 10 (IL10) demonstrating its usefulness as an activator of immune tolerance and allergy control. Resveratrol deactivates NK-Kappa-B protein which protects cancerous cells from chemotherapy and their destruction, and as such it can be effectively used during chemotherapy in order to protect the body and aid in making the therapy more active.
The polyphenols of which it is composed are substances that are able to counteract the harmful effects of free radicals that are responsible for cellular ageing (wrinkles, skin spots, muscular and cutaneous slackening) thus making its use possible and effective for aesthetic medicine and in the preparation of plastic surgery and reconstruction treatments.
In many cases, it may also be used to combat infection and it's often able to act where other antibiotic therapies are no longer effective.
Dosage
The standard dosage is usually 1 capsule to be taken once or twice per day, for a dosage that varies from 50 to 300 mg per day of resveratrol, depending on the clinical situation.
During acute phases, for example in the treatment of an infection or in the immediate post-surgery phase, the product may even be used at high dosages (up to 2-4 capsules per day), for the few days that are necessary. After that, resume the usual dosage.
Duration
The duration of the treatment may even be for long periods (in the case of chronic or recurring forms) and will be prescribed by your doctor if necessary.
When this medicine is used for self-therapy, treatments lasting over three months should be discussed with a doctor.
Suggested preparation
One of the most valid products is Resvital in 150 mg capsules distributed by OTI Italia. The dosage is 1-2 capsules per day. The dosage for children (between 6 and 12 years) is 1 capsule per day.
