Luca Speciani is an expert of:

  • GIFT Diet and Mind Body Work (integrated mind and body training)
  • Integrated nutritional counseling
  • Personalized assistance for athletes and marathon runners (diet and training)
  • Physical and dietary re-education aimed at resuming physical activity

He has a cum laude degree in Agricultural Sciences from Milan University (1986). He presented an innovative thesis on the action of homeopathic products.  For years he's been working in the field of alternative medicine, natural diet and organic agriculture as well as in all food-related issues connected with these topics.  His first scientific publication "Homeopathy and agriculture" (Utet Libreria, 1987) was a result of this experience.

A talented runner since youth, he developed a particular approach to running that he shares with his readers in his books. “Lo Zen e l'arte della corsa” ("Zen and the art of running"), Editoriale Sport Italia, 2001, calls for a new way of running: instinctive, joyous and with no strings attached. "Mente & Maratona" ("Mind & Marathon"), Editoriale Sport Italia, 2003, co-authored by Pietro Trabucchi, describes the Mind Body Work project, which is based on awareness of the deep unity of mind and body and on the possibility of modifying incorrect mental attitudes through emotionally-rich physical exercise.

After being certified as a trainer by FIDAL, the Italian Federation of Athletics, he became an internet coach and worked with many athletes (a few of whom are high-level marathoners) applying innovative training methods and new dietary approaches with very interesting results.

Since 2001 he has managed a website dedicated to running, nutrition, and to body-mind issues (Luca Speciani's website)

He cooperates with Eurosalus and with Italy's leading running magazine ("Correre").  He has spoken at conventions organized by some of the most prestigious marathons (New York, Milan, Florence and Genoa) about the neuro-biological  foundation of his approach to training.

He also cooperates with a major tour operator: he develops diet and training plans for the participants of organized trips to major international marathons.

Luca Speciani's role at SMA is to formulate physical and dietary re-education programs for active as well as sedentary persons that are aimed at resuming sports activity.

He has a deep knowledge of the effects of movement, of insulin sensitivity and of the phenomena connected with hyper-sensitivity and food intolerance.  He is also well-versed in metabolic diseases (particularly diabetes and food-related productive processes). He follows and formulates nutritional plans based on his experience (always compared to and enriched by medical evidence) with different goals in mind: weight management, sport performance or reduction of body inflammation through dietary instruments that are applicable by all.

GIFT Diet®

Gift diet is a nutritional path based on three principles (metabolic activation, insulin balance, nutritional quality) and on ten rules that work together to combine weight loss with well-being and health.  GIFT means Graduality, Individuality, Flexibility and Tone: these are the underlying principles of this diet, which does not seek to establish a tight control on calorie intake  but aims at full dietary and psycho-physical balance.

Mind Body Work

This approach was developed together with Pietro Trabucchi, a psychologist. Mind Body Work training is based on mental conditioning of performance by means of targeted psycho-physical stimula. This global approach places a particular emphasis on mental conditioning in association with dietary choices.
