The reason why food intolerances facilitate weight gain is being increasingly more evident. A series of international studies has identified macrophages (particular white blood cells) in adipose tissue that provoke insulin resistance in reaction to a low intensity inflammatory phenomenon (such as that which is induced by food intolerances, that is, a situation similar to diabetes that causes weight gain. At this point the road to controlling weight gain is becoming more clear and simple.

One of these articles published in the International Journal of Obesity (Zeyda M et al, Int J Obes (Lond) 2007 Jun 26; [Epub ahead of print]) reported on the research by a group of Viennese endocrinologists. This work shed new light on the causes of weight gain and its connections with low grade inflammation.

Thanks to this study, it's even easier to understand why people who suffer from food intolerances or delayed food allergies are more prone to insulin resistance.

This is why a diet that regulates intolerances helps people to regain their proper weight, reducing fat and increasing lean mass. It's evident why an intoxicated and inflamed body tends to gain weight and why people who suffer from food allergies often gain weight without understanding the causes.

The key to this phenomenon centers on the activation of these macrophages in adipose tissue. Although they have a structure that usually belongs to anti-inflammatory cells, in reality, they develop a pro-inflammatory production and induce insulin resistance when stimulated by diet or low grade inflammation. In this way they create a condition similar to that of diabetes and facilitate an increase in fatty tissue.
For this reason it's evident that testing for food intolerances and the formulation of a diet, such as the GIFT diet, that controls peaks in insulin, are the easiest and most physiological instruments available for controlling your weight and keeping in shape.
