fat-three-types.jpgThe shape of our fat, the way in which it's distributed on a person's body, is often the first impression that people perceive when they meet someone. The space occupied by a person's body is a sign of one's presence, but occupying it with hips, stomach, buttocks, shoulders or with the entire body characterizes the typical differences of every individual.

When you accumulate fat only on your abdomen and your legs remain thin and lack muscle tone, this is a typical condition of a person with strong insulin resistance. This subject has a predisposition for diabetes and has never exercised very much during his life.

When fat tends to accumulate only around the hips and sides (even in women who are slim) this is a sign of intolerance of foods that are salty and contain yeast. It often corresponds with a resentful personality, typical of a person who carries “a chip on their shoulders” for their whole life.

To quote a popular phrase, we can say that “Your fat is talking about you: you can make it stop”. Once you understand how and why fat chooses to deposit itself in certain areas, there are possible solutions that can help to melt the fat that has accumulated in those places, without having a having a haggard face and hips that remain hefty nevertheless.

Thanks to recent studies on leptin, adiponectine and adipokines in general, it's clear that by simply balancing carbohydrates and proteins in each meal one can reduce the build up of fat or facilitate its consumption. In “GIFT Diet: the signal diet” (Rizzoli publishers), a book that I wrote together with my brother Luca, I describe  the strategies by which we can send signals to our bodies that tell it to lose or gain weight. For example, chewing our food slowly facilitates liposis, that is, the melting of fat. We could almost say something like “Fat: just say no”.

We also know that one's mental state can interfere with having a flat stomach or on the contrary a big buttocks. We've also understood that yeast intolerance can easily lead to the typical wide-hipped, bottle shape. Intolerance to dairy products enlarges the abdomen and often brings about the general diffusion of fat over the entire body.

The accumulation of fat is always linked to a diet that isn't able to regulate insulin and its peaks. The strategies for losing fat and increasing muscle tone always come about by way of a signal diet such as the GIFT diet.

From a metabolic standpoint, the typical apple shape which is characterized by a prominent tummy with fat distributed even in the upper areas, like under the armpits and in the middle section, can benefit from the use of lipoic acid. This compound exerts a specific action on the harmful effects caused by hyperglycemia.

Pear or bottle shape

fat-pera.jpgA pear or bottle shape, on the other hand, can benefit from the metabolic activation induced by CLA (conjugated linoleic acid). This oil activates cell receptors which, in turn, facilitate fat consumption and help us return to the type of healthy nutritional regime followed in the Paleolithic era and encourages the loss of excess fat.

fat-tronchetto.jpgMixed, tree-trunk shape

A mixed, “tree-trunk” shape, with fat deposited around the waist as well as in the pelvic area, can be helped by exercise as well as the control of insulin and the activation of adiponectin. This is a substance that probably accompanied the body's “reawakening” in the spring by helping primitive Man to shake off the long winter, use up all of the excess fat, return to being a swift walker or hunter and avoid becoming prey. Adiponectin can also be naturally stimulated by a strong antioxidant like purple corn extract (rich in C3G).

Our body fat reveals what we are, what we eat, how much or how little we exercise and also says something about our personality. By understanding it we can find the right solutions for every shape...
