Colostrum is an extremely interesting biological substance. In order to understand its function, let’s take a look at when nursing begins. All female mammals produce this immunological nutriment before lactogenesis occurs. In the days preceding the arrival of the mother’s milk, the newborn ingests a substance whose function is not specifically nutritional (calories, carbohydrates, fats, proteins), but serves to give biological and immunological stimuli to the organism that must face the world.

Colostrum activates the immune system, helps to repair tissue, and stimulates the production of special enzymes.

In addition to antibodies ( secretive immunoglobin IgA), immune cells (microphages, neutrophils, lymphocytes, etc) and important epithelial growthfactors, colostrum contains proglastins (PG) that have a key role in the protection of the mucous lining of the digestive apparatus and help to release enzymes and regulate acidity.

This substance is extremely versatile and has a rebalancing action on the immune system. As a matter of fact, a colostrum preparation used in the therapeutic treatment of food intolerances often aids in the reactivation of immune tolerance.

Depending on the area in which it is used, colostrum can be used to perform various functions. We can summarize its action in the concept of a natural aid (it is a food, not a medicine) in the physiological repair processes of thevarious tissues: digestive mucosa, skin, injuries, ulcers.

Compostion

Colostrum is prepared by expert pharmacists (creams, tablets) or it can be found in ready made preparations. Some companies use a base of horse, cow, or goat colostrum. The product is then usually mixed with natural absorbent substances or plant extracts that are in synergy with the product’s function.

A product that we often suggest is Gastro Remargin Colostrum. This substance gives particular aid in digestion and helps to rebalance the digestive mucosa: it is mixed with Fenugreek, Psyllium, Grapefruit, Calendula and Angelica to better direct its specific function of protecting the gastric system and the duodenum.

The distinctive nature of the products lies in the combination of these ingredients, obtained according to the respective characteristics of the plants and their essences.

Dosage

With regard to Gastro Remargin Colostrum, the usual dosage is 6 tablets per day ( to be swallowed or chewed) before the 3 main meals for about a week, and then a subsequent dose of 1 tablet before each meal ( thereby decreasing the dose to 3 tablets a day) that can be extended for prolonged periods.

Duration of treatment

The treatment usually lasts for at least fifteen days, but in some cases it can be useful to extend the treatment for several months ( from 2 to 3). In many cases positive results are obtained in a short periods of time, but in some instances, the beneficial effects come about slowly and progressively. In these cases it is best to seek medical advice.
