How the ALCAT test is performed PDF Print E-mail
by Attilio Speciani

The ALCAT test is performed by extracting 10 ml. of the patient's blood (the test doesn't need to be taken  on an empty stomach) and comparing it with a series of food substances (a standardized capillary sample extraction procedure is being prepared in order to make taking a sample much simpler and practicable in any clinical setting).

Most of the mediators that are responsible for intolerance reactions to foods cause modifications in the patient's blood cells and especially in the neutrophil granulocytes (white blood cells), a fact that is confirmed by the identification of the "alternative route " of allergy in the latter months of 2007.

The ALCAT System Test identifies a negative reaction to foods, that is, to the food allergens (approved and authorized by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

The number and dimensions of the neutrophil granulocytes are evaluated in terms of cell diameter as well as cell volume.

When a variation in the number and dimensions of the neutrophil granulocytes occurs, this means that an adverse reaction to a specific food is present.  The test can be performed on patients of all ages and in any clinical condition, therefore on small children (even under 5 years) as well as on youths or on adults.
